Lachie's 4th party

When Lachie turned 4 I promised myself that I would just do a super simple party... NO decorations, easy catering (actually, that's pretty normal for me... I'm not much into cooking), NO crazy amount of sewing or crafty stuff!!! BUT... I just had to slip a few things in... ;)

Here is some super easy felt bunting I made for the party. It was really simple to make. I used one row of stitching at the top to create a casing, then used some cord to slip through the top of each piece and then tied a knot in between each piece to stop it sliding together and bunching up. I love how clean and fresh it looks. :)
the all important food table :)

The invites

I made some lego frames to decorate the food table with. I used one of them to frame the 'menu' that Lachie had chosen. :)

I also made some fondant letters and numbers. I used maybe about one tenth of the ones made... estimation FAIL!!!

more frames

Lachie wanted some "huuuuge biscuits" at his party. It's hard to see by these photos but they are actually the size of a small child's head!! ;)

The obligatory fairy bread pic!

He wanted a "black cake with smarties". Sweeet... how easy is that!?!?! I plonked the cake on a lego board and got Tim to write "Lachie" in lego (yes, I'm a bit 'challenged' when it comes to lego creations).

Lastly, a pic of my precious boy!! :)
Ok, that's all!

helium balloons and felt teeth and ice packs... oh my!!

Today's 'just because' gift is one that makes me giggle. My brother has just had some of his wisdom teeth removed, poor guy!! I absolutely HATE the dentist (sorry to any dentists reading this, I'm sure you really are nice people... ;). My brother has been dreading these few appointments so I thought I'd make something special for him to come home to. My brother has a terribly funny sense of humour so I was really able to go all out on his gift. I decided to make him a cover for a ice pack with felt teeth and blood drops dripping off one of the roots of the teeth. Hee hee hee...

Here it is...

I've put some snaps on the end so that the cover can be removed
Sorry to my mother-in-law and all you expert embroiderers out there. I've only had one lesson in embroidery and I couldn't be bothered doing it properly... so... it's a bit 'rustic' ;)
with the ice pack
I also bought him a set of replacement teeth

Here it is on his doorstep with a helium balloon chosen by Lachie. This is actually the second balloon that we bought. The first one got popped 15 minutes after we got home from a very stressful trip to the balloon shop. And yep... I cried!! Not sure if it's better or worse to cry over a popped balloon as opposed to spilt milk?!?!? Hmmm... lots of child related stress at our place at the moment. Anyway, blah blah blah...
Ok, hope you like this random little project. Know someone who needs to be cheered up?? Why not go out and buy a helium balloon?? I am a firm believer that anyone can be cheered up with a helium balloon. ;) Who cares their (or your) age... you're never too old for a helium balloon!!

See ya,

Bubble Painting and trying out some new crafty goods

I'm in the middle of a thousand different projects (you can thank my Mum for my gift of exaggeration) at the moment so don't have a whole lot of finished projects to show you. But I was able to put together a quick card for a friend of mine today. I was so excited to finally get some ink on a new stamp set I had bought from the new Stampin' Up! catalogue. As a quick aside... If you don't know, I am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, so if there's anything you want to purchase or if you'd like to have a workshop then let me know. :)

Anyway, I love making cards specifically with someone in mind. It makes it a whole lot more personal. So, here it is...

It's a bit hard to tell but I've stamped the envelope with the same stamp as the silhouette background stamp for some matching goodness.

Yes, I cut the "hello" out by hand. It's a bit rough in places but I was happy with it for a first attempt. :)

A few days ago I decided on a whim to do some bubble painting with Lachie. I haven't done it since I was a kid so there was a whole lot of trial and error involved.

If you're keen on doing it we used...

paint (water soluble)
water
detergent
straw
paper
containers
enthusiastic parent (this is not essential but is desirable ;)

Now I did have a bit of a problem... no straws!... I had a very excited Lachie and couldn't bear disappointing him so... I used a piece of paper wrapped it round a knitting needle and taped it together! Huzzah!! Problem solved!

Ok, mix together paint water and a bit of detergent in a container with a wide top, we used a clean yogurt container. Stick the straw in and blow until you get lots of lovely colourful bubbles out the top. Take the paper and gently place it over the bubbles so you get the pattern of the bubbles on the paper.

And there you have it... one happy child! We only did one colour because it was late in the day, but next time we'll do a few more to make it a bit more exciting.

Supplies (minus enthusiastic parent)

Love this guy!!

Have fun bubbling...

Truck/Trailer/Tactor dinner for Mr Picky

My Lachie man is a terrible eater!! I have tried every trick in the book to get him to eat.

Believe me... I've tried!!!!!!!!! Lachie also has food intolerance's and so we have had him on a very strict elimination diet from the beginning of this year to work out what he reacts to. But guess what?!?!? We had to stop after months of blood, sweat and tears (lots of those) because... he just stopped eating!!! So, we needed to add more variety so that we could get some food into him...

Anyway... I can feel a child related rant coming on so I'm going to end the waffling here...

Tonight I wanted to give Lachie a really fun, fresh and healthy meal so I decided to add his favourite 3 things to the ingredient list. Trucks, Trailers and Tractors.

Add some cucumber, cheese, carrot, banana, capsicum, ham and a cube of chocolate...

... and you get one very happy boy!!

precious guy!!
So, that's it! I know it probably doesn't look like much food, but for us that was a VERY successful meal! He ate pretty much everything. He even tasted the ham! :)

Ok,

till next time,

Adele's party invites

Adele will be 1 (!) in less than a month!! Oh my goodness!! We are having a small party for her with our families in October. Her party also happens to fall on Tim's birthday so I will have to work out something special to do for him too. :)

Anyway, the theme for her party is pinwheels. I LOVE pinwheels and have been busily making them over the last few nights. So, here are her invites...

I wanted to make the invites really fresh and clean. The fabric is very busy so I didn't want much else on the invite. I've done 3 different colours.

I've also used some super cute flower buttons for the pinwheels centers.

Here's another party sneak peek...

These are teeny tiny! It's sitting on one of the crossbeams of my fence paling. It's about 8cm by 7cm. I'm only using the white one's in the pic below but LOVE this yellow one so had to add this pic too. :)

So, watch this space... I have plans for these absolutely gorgeous little tin buckets!! :)
In other news...

I can't keep Adele away from the CD's. Looks like it's time to move them to higher ground!! ;)

Am about to tackle mount 'Washmore'

I have the most handsome son in all the world... this is not up for debate... ;)
Ok... till next time,

A card, seed progress pic and a fail... ;)

A good friend of mine has just announced her first pregnancy. I am so thrilled for her and her husband. :) I think my voice rose about 2 octaves when she told me. I then proceeded to question her in quick, short bursts for the next 5 minutes...

Anyway, I wanted to be the first to send her a congratulations card... so I was able to get into my craft room for a few minutes a few days later and made her a card. Here it is...

Next order of business... a quick pic of the seedlings that Lachie and I are raising together.

After a fairly rocky start (thanks to some Lachie induced flooding) the are coming along quite nicely. I'm just getting the garden weeded and manured up so it is ready for it's new plants.
Lastly, a fail... I have been making another pair of pj pants for my  Handmake Christmas 2011 challenge. I took the sizing off a  pair of board shorts and forgot that board shorts are quite tight fitting. Cotton pj pants are not! FAIL! So, my gorgeous overseas bought fabric is now sadly sitting in a pile of shame. It was my absolute favourite fabric and I don't have enough to make a second pair. I know I can add another section in to make them bigger but then they'll look dumb! Boo... that is all... Yes, taking a moment to have a whinge...

Ok,

Lachie is...

Please excuse me if I take a few moments to talk about Mummy stuff... if kid related stuff bores you then now is your opportunity to sign out... ;)

My boy lachie is 3 and has been a 'challenge' in every area of his life since he was born. I have struggled with every aspect of being a Mum and am having a particularly rough time at the moment. Generally I am a very positive person but am feeling far from it at the moment. Kids are hard people!!! But before I go off into a child related rant I'd like to talk about everything that I love about my son.

Lachlan is...

Kind Hearted
Healthy
Vibrant
Gentle with animals
Loving
Generous spirited
Smart
Extremely cute
Lots of fun
Full of life
A bright jewel in my life
Full of Imagination
Focused
Logical
Vivacious
Thoughtful

I am thankful for the gift of such a boy! He is truly precious! I am completely committed to parenting him well so that he can grow into an amazing man. I am all too aware that I am only human and am not able to do that on my own. Thank you Jesus for your daily strength, a wonderful husband and your gift of friendship.

Thanks for listening!! :)

Massive hat fail. :)

Hi!

I made a hat for my precious lachie the other day and... well... it's a fail. :) But, I thought i'd share it with you all anyway. I used fabric from my favourite new range 'Children at play' by Sarah Jane. It is the most beautiful fabric! :) Here's the hat...

Looks good right?!?!?

Absolutely beautiful fabric!!!

It's hard to tell from the pic but it's MASSIVE!!!! I think you could fit two heads in there!!
So, it looks good. But it's HUGE! Hahaha... not to worry. There is a silver lining though. The pattern I made for his hat actually fits me, so with a few small amendments I will be making a hat for myself. :)

I will also be fixing his hat so that he can wear it. I'm not going to take the whole thing apart but I will cut some of the extra width out and sew it back up. It won't look as good but it will be functional enough. :)

So... have you had any fails? Post a link if you have and we can all have a laugh. :)

Hope you're having a good day,

Kerryn

Lachie and Daddy pyjamas

When a friend of mine made her hubby a pair of PJ's out of this fabric I discovered some very serious and unrelenting 'fabric envy'. I finally found it at my local lincraft store. Hoorah!! I even broke my 'fabric diet' to buy some. Some may call this a lack of restraint breaking my 'diet' on day 2, but I call it necessity! Some fabrics just belong in the 'need' and not the 'want' category... right?!?!?

Anyway, I set about making some PJ pants for my 2 favourite boys. I also cutout some of the images and turned them into iron on transfers. My boys look so handsome in the matching PJ's. :)

Tim's shirt
Lachie's shirt. P.S. If anyone can tell me how to rotate this photo I will be eternally grateful!! The photo on my computer is rotated the correct way but when I upload it changes orientation!! HELP!!! ;)

LOVE these two... :)
 Aren't my boys handsome!! :)

See you next time,

Kerryn

Lachie-loo, I love you!

I love my boy!! He is smart, cheeky, full of life, inventive, focused, generous, drives me crazy, makes me laugh!! I love creating for him. There are so many fun projects you can do for boys. Here are a few of my favourites...
We call this his 'jumper full of pockets'. I started out by making a basic jumper then used up some scrap fabric and made lots of pockets for him to fill with his treasures.

We also made sock puppets that day. Affectionately named Pup and Nun.

I made matching Lachie and Nana aprons for my Mum for as a Mother's day gift.

See you next time.
