Sweet Adele turns 1

My sweet Adele turned 1 yesterday! I cannot believe that a whole year has passed since she join our little family. She is such a treasure and a beautiful gift from God. I love her sweet and cheeky little personality and am so enjoying seeing her blossom and grow. It's such a joy getting to know her more and more every day. :)

I walked out of the kitchen to find Adele in a box. Lachie had 'made her into a robot'. :)

We had candle issues. Tim 'cleaned' our party drawer and now I can't find any of our candles. I could only find a 2 and a 4. Hmmm... so... simple solution. Turn the 4 into a 1!! :) Tim said I should have been an engineer. With my skill in maths... I don't think so!!

*Spoiler Alert* Handmake Christmas 2011 - Do not read if you are a male in my family! ;)

I am excited to say that I have finished 3 of my 12 family Christmas gifts!! Hoorah... I'm on my way to Handmaking Christmas 2011!! And I'm happy to say that the handmaking 'bug' is spreading. I'm hearing of more and more people who are giving it a go this year! Hoorah!! :) Let me know if you are... I'd love to put your projects up here... :)

Anyway, this week I've finished my Brother-in-law and Dad's Christmas gifts. I've made them and my brother PJ pants. I absolutely LOVE all 3 of these PJ pants because they use some of my all time FAVOURITE fabrics. Here they are...

My Dad loves planes and is a qualified pilot. He's going to love this fabric! It's so bright and funny!! I can totally see my dad wearing these. :)

The bad boys below have a bit of a sad story. I have totally buggered them up. My Brother-in-law wanted short PJ pants so I borrowed some of his board shorts to make the pattern from. Anyway, I totally forgot to add width to the pattern (since you want PJ's to be baggier than board shorts) and they ended up waaay too small. Ahhhhh... Anyway, I added an ugly extra panel of fabric down the outside seam of each pant leg. Gah! I'm pretty disappointed because this fabric is my absolute favourite of any fabric I have EVER bought!! I know... big call, right??



How awesome is this fabric!!!! I've got a bit left over and am planning on making myself a wallet with it. Oh yeah! Cassette tape goodness!

The pic below is a sneak peak at something I've been working on for Adele's party... ooooooooh... what is it?!?!?!?!? 2 1/2 weeks to go and still lots to do!!!! :)

Bubble Painting and trying out some new crafty goods

I'm in the middle of a thousand different projects (you can thank my Mum for my gift of exaggeration) at the moment so don't have a whole lot of finished projects to show you. But I was able to put together a quick card for a friend of mine today. I was so excited to finally get some ink on a new stamp set I had bought from the new Stampin' Up! catalogue. As a quick aside... If you don't know, I am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, so if there's anything you want to purchase or if you'd like to have a workshop then let me know. :)

Anyway, I love making cards specifically with someone in mind. It makes it a whole lot more personal. So, here it is...

It's a bit hard to tell but I've stamped the envelope with the same stamp as the silhouette background stamp for some matching goodness.

Yes, I cut the "hello" out by hand. It's a bit rough in places but I was happy with it for a first attempt. :)

A few days ago I decided on a whim to do some bubble painting with Lachie. I haven't done it since I was a kid so there was a whole lot of trial and error involved.

If you're keen on doing it we used...

paint (water soluble)
water
detergent
straw
paper
containers
enthusiastic parent (this is not essential but is desirable ;)

Now I did have a bit of a problem... no straws!... I had a very excited Lachie and couldn't bear disappointing him so... I used a piece of paper wrapped it round a knitting needle and taped it together! Huzzah!! Problem solved!

Ok, mix together paint water and a bit of detergent in a container with a wide top, we used a clean yogurt container. Stick the straw in and blow until you get lots of lovely colourful bubbles out the top. Take the paper and gently place it over the bubbles so you get the pattern of the bubbles on the paper.

And there you have it... one happy child! We only did one colour because it was late in the day, but next time we'll do a few more to make it a bit more exciting.

Handmake Christmas 2011 Jmack style

I have a very special place in my heart for a wonderful crafty friend I met 3 1/2 years ago. I met Janet, along with many other fantastic new mum's, at our local early childhood centre when our first bubs were born. I really struggled with those first few months of parenting and so I did not get along to any of the lunches or social gatherings outside of the early childhood centre. Then Lachie ended up in hospital at 10 weeks old needing emergency surgery (he had an abscess in a lymph node in his groin) so I really fell off the radar. Finally 5 months later I had finally sorted out a lot of associated problems with the little guy! I was finally ready to get out and socialise but I felt that too much time had passed and that it was too late for me to become involved in the Parent's group that had established from the Early Childhood meetings. Hmmm... what to do?!?!? That very week I received an email from Janet telling me that I was still very welcome to come to any of the gatherings if I ever wanted to and she even gave me the details of the gathering that week. Well I jumped at the opportunity and have not looked back! I am so thankful to Janet for the quick email she sent me that day! :)

Anyway... blah blah blah... not only is Janet a great person but she is also a fellow crafter and I wanted to put up some of the stuff that she is doing at the moment. She is aiming to Handmake Christmas 2011 and has some really great ideas.

Janet is sending these cards to the troops overseas so that they have cards to send to love ones back home. What an awesome thing to do!

This necklace is awesome! It's a bit hard to tell but the beads are a mix of aqua, copper and red. Hot!!

Truck/Trailer/Tactor dinner for Mr Picky

My Lachie man is a terrible eater!! I have tried every trick in the book to get him to eat.

Believe me... I've tried!!!!!!!!! Lachie also has food intolerance's and so we have had him on a very strict elimination diet from the beginning of this year to work out what he reacts to. But guess what?!?!? We had to stop after months of blood, sweat and tears (lots of those) because... he just stopped eating!!! So, we needed to add more variety so that we could get some food into him...

Anyway... I can feel a child related rant coming on so I'm going to end the waffling here...

Tonight I wanted to give Lachie a really fun, fresh and healthy meal so I decided to add his favourite 3 things to the ingredient list. Trucks, Trailers and Tractors.

Add some cucumber, cheese, carrot, banana, capsicum, ham and a cube of chocolate...

... and you get one very happy boy!!

So, that's it! I know it probably doesn't look like much food, but for us that was a VERY successful meal! He ate pretty much everything. He even tasted the ham! :)

Father's Day 2011 good times complete with a towelling hat

Yesterday was Father's day 2011. I am blessed to have a wonderful father, a wonderful father-in-law and wonderful father to my kids. I would not swap any of them! Truly!!

Yesterday we celebrated father's day with my family and also celebrated my Uncle's 60th birthday. It was a really lovely day!! I had been looking forward to it for weeks because I had made Dad a really special present. My Dad LOVES towelling hats! They are not the most attractive or fashionable things in the world but hey, whatever, he loves them! They are not available anymore and he has been using one for years that is pretty much dead now. So, I decided to try and make him one. And... it worked!!! :)

Here's a pic of his old towelling hat and yes, that is my sisters finger through a hole in the top. :)

To make his hat I took very precise measurements from this hat and drew them onto paper to make the pattern. I kinda just 'winged it'. I've made a few hat fails before and have learnt to be very precise when measuring hats and making patterns! :)
